Indian food hits

OK, in an idle moment, myself and my friend Mohan were thinking about song titles featuring Indian food. This all stemmed from when we were in a band together at university. Someone once commented that one of our songs sounded like the Smiths, and as all of us in the band were of Indian or Pakistani origin, this led someone to quip that we should play "Girlfriend in a korma".

Anyway, recently we were thinking about this, and realised that we could do better. So, in no particular order, pop-pickers, here is our Indian food chart:

Justin Timberlake: "Karahai me a river"

T'Pau: "Channa in your hands"

Radiohead: "Rice dream"

One Giant Leap: "My kulcha"

Lesley Gore: "It's my chapatti and I'll cry if I want to"

Kylie Minogue: "Tears on my pilau"

Culture (Kulcha?) Club: "Korma Chameleon"

Dusty Springfield (and lots of other people): "Tikka 'nother little piece of my heart"

The Beatles: "Paperback raita"

Elvis Presley: "Aloo lonesome tonight?"

ABBA: "Dhansak Queen"

Placebo: "Puri morning"

Lenny Kravitz: "Aloo gobi go my way?"

Justin Timberlake (again): "Rock your bhaji"

The Beatles (again): "Tikka to ride"

The Commodores: "Three times a laddoo"

Sylvester: "You make me feel methi real"

INXS: "Sui-sag blonde"

ABBA (again): "Wat-aloo"

And finally for now:

The Killers: "Glamorous bhindi rock 'n' roll"

Any new suggestions/abuse, please click on the "comments" button below... Thanks to Mohan for his ideas, and to POD for his marvellous T'Pau suggestion.

I'll stick to Number Ones:

Abba - "Tikka Chance On Me" (suprised you missed that one)

Adam & The Ants - "Prince Shami"

Vengaboys - "Going Dopiaza"

The Byrds - "Mr Tam-Biryani Man"

Tammy Wynette - "Stand By Your Naan" (hundreds of those but that's my favourite)

Madonna - "Popadom Preach"

Wizzard "Keema Baby Jive"

What about real ones? The only one I can think of is "Vindaloo" by Fat Les.

Cheers for the link ;-)

Hi Terra Nova,

Long time no speak. Good to see you are still around. Sorry about the login thing, I have changed the settings so now anyone should be able to post.
